Hello everyone,

Big news flash - we relocated recently from Hawaii and have taken residence in majestic Northern New Mexico. The noxious presence of "Vog" (volcanic smog) motivated an unexpected move. One tropical morning, Kathryn and I leaned against our Lanai's railing; eye's peering toward island's edge- our hopeful gaze seeking a glimpse of heavenly blue water. All we viewed was an alarming cloud of dense fog covering both sea and sky. Hmmm, what's that? As we scratched our heads, we watched these volcanic gases hover on the horizon for seven, sometimes ten mornings in a row. Our lovely Hawaiian atmosphere was volatizing and was swallowed silently by a "white out" sulfuric haze only volcanoes dare create.

When the island trade winds cease, Kilauea spreads her choking blanket of volcanic vapor over Oahu. At first, we just shook our heads at the reeling irony of moving to Hawaii sixteen months prior pursuing pristine air quality. So began our trouble in paradise- after sixty plus consecutive days of burning throats, watering eyes and growing tightness in the chest, we took mother natures hint and high tailed it to the high desert.

As one might imagine, the Hawaii tourist bureau seems in no great hurry to inform mainlanders of the emergence of a large vent spout appearing in Kilauea volcano on Hawaii's big island. This ominous occurrence happened in April of 2008 and has resulted in fifty percent more sulfur dioxide being spewed into the north Pacific atmosphere -an estimated 200 tons a day. When those trade winds cease blowing, the Vog travels from the "big island" northward to Maui's shores before settling over Oahu. This Vog mixes with sunlight and moisture in the atmosphere before descending as (Natures own) acid rain. Sadly, Vog is actively wreaking havoc on the islands multi billion dollar agricultural crops. The long term human dangers of Vog exposure are still being researched, with evidence suggesting that strong Vog days coincide with alarming spikes in respiratory related emergency room visits. On hazy days children and "sensitive groups" are politely encouraged by authorities to "limit activities" and remain indoors.

So here we are, continuing our quest for clean air (So far - so good) currently living between the cities of Santa Fe and Albuquerque. Our friends and many supporters have expressed their heartfelt joy and elation that our feet are back upon the "continent." It must be said, we too feel "closer" to our family and friends. Embracing life's big changes is easy when receiving such big support.

We are finding New Mexico's high desert to be a world of wonder - a stunning paradise all its own - a sun soaked dynamic landscape anchored by colossal watermelon pink mountains. (The Sandia's) The rugged Rio Grande can never substitute for the Pacific Ocean, but it does afford a pretty setting for sunset strolls along the Cottonwood studded river banks.

"Down the road" we intend to get back to Hawaii for extended work/fun trips. But for now, its time to regroup energetically and physically from an ambitious transpacific relocation and the last two mainland travels. (It was wonderful to guide so many souls over the two "public appearance" tours) Currently, Castex Consultations is revving up the psychic engines on the home front, opening new office doors on the outskirts of Albuquerque.
